Login Problems

If you are having problems logging on because your password is not working you should reset your password.

To do this go to http://address.udayton.edu. in the left column you will see a link that says, "Student Reset Password". Follow the instructions given by the page and your problems will soon be history.

If your problem persists, call the help desk at 229-3888. You may also go to the walk in help desk located across form the campus computer store in the basement of Miriam hall, make sure you take your photo ID.

Logon user error = Forbidden Access with Blank Page

Upon entering the site: "http://webct.udayton.edu", the client encounters the following error message: "Error 403 forbidden access with a blank page behind it."

Fixing the Problem
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Go to tools
  • Click on Internet options
  • Choose advanced
  • Scroll down until you see "Show friendly HTTP Error messages"
  • Make sure that option is turned off by un-checking the box
  • Click Apply and problem should stop
  • Restart your computer
Logon user error = Forbidden Access with Non-Blank Page

If you are trying to click on the Logon screen for WebCT, and you get an error page that says something like "Access forbidden", and there are links listed below which take you to other web sites, you may have a "Spybot" problem. You will need to download some programs to delete these Spybots from your computer. People who shop online or download music will be more susceptible to this issue. This is not actually a WebCT problem, but is a program that has been downloaded to your computer that is redirecting your web page.

Fixing the Problem
  1. Go to software.udayton.edu and download Lavasoft ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy programs.
  2. Make sure you update them. This is CRITICAL! If you do not update them, these products will not be equipped with the most current information to delete Ad-aware and SpyBot programs (similar to virus protection).
  3. Run these programs appropriately to get rid of any spy-ware.
  4. This should also enhance the responsiveness of your computer.
  5. You should run these programs on a regular (maybe daily) basis, as Ad-aware and SpyBots are frequently downloaded to personal computers. Remember to update these products periodically.
Logon user error = WebCT authorization
Upon entering the URL http://webct.udayton.edu, the client encounters the following error message: ERROR(1005) An error occurred in WebCT authorization.
Fixing the Problem
User names along with passwords are case sensitive. Retype your user name and password in the login page using only lower case.
