Questions Using Images in Respondus

It is possible to create questions that utilize images in Respondus. The images must be in .gif, .jpg, or .jpeg format and a tag must be placed at each location in the text file where the image should appear.

The image tag would follow this sequence: [ img: "filename.jpg" ].

Example:

3) The interferometer, shown here [img: "interferometer.jpg"], was used by which of the following scientists?

a) Albert Einstein
*b) Albert Michelson
c) Thomas Edison
d) Vladimir Zworykin

To include alternative text for ADA-compliant screen readers, place the desired text in a second set of quotes immediately following the quotes that contain the file name:

[img: "interferometer.jpg" "Picture of an interferometer" ]

All images being used for this list of questions, must be located in a single folder. During the import process, the location of the image folder must be specified in the first step. After the import is complete, the images will appear inline with the question text.

How to add equations

Respondus can be used to create assessments that have equations in the questions or answers. To do this you would need an "equation editor" on your computer. UD has a license for Respondus Equation Editor 4.0. You need to ensure it is on your computer. It can be installed by running the installation for Respondus (see: Downloading Respondus) and answering yes to the question “Do you want to install the Respondus equation editor?”

Adding equations:

Launch Respondus 3.0 Campus-Wide edition.
Make sure that you have the “Start” tab selected. Click on Open or Create located on left side bar or this Start tab.
Give your file a name and description or browse for the file you want to open.
The “Edit” tab should now automatically be highlighted. Check to ensure that the title bar at the top has the correct file name that you just inputted. You are now ready to begin creating the questions.
Title the question.
Click in the “Question wording” rectangle. When you need to input the equation, you can launch Respondus Equation Editor 4.0 by clicking on the Sigma symbol located on the Tool bar.
Once Respondus Equation Editor 4.0 launches, select the appropriate equation template, and add the numbers to the template.
Click on File/close.
Click OK on the dialog box when prompted. The equation will be put in the question box. It will say <EQ_1> or <EQ_2> or something similar.

You will not see the actual equation until it is published or until you preview the question.
Answers that need equations should be done in the same format.
